At the E3 video games conference in 2009, Microsoft announced something that will revolutionize the video game industry. They unleashed demonstrations and video of their new accessory for the Xbox 360 console, that is the Kinect camera. That camera, in actuality two cameras, are able to see all of the movements that your body makes, and translate that through software that will allow you to control your video games with your body movements, isn’t that cool?

While that may seem a lot like the Nintendo Wii, it definitely takes it a step further. While the Nintendo Wii can only judge your hand movements certain ways, and that is definitely cool, Kinect is able to see all of the motions that you do, and translate that into awesome video games in all types of genres. The way that it works is that there are two different types of cameras. The first camera is a regular RGB camera that works like a video camera seeing you and translating that onto the screen. The second camera is an infrared one that can sense the distance of your movements. The Kinect software takes that information, and combines it to control the video games.

Since the demos and videos look a lot like that movie Minority Report, people look at that and say “Is Kinect fake?“. And while it may seem that way, it is definitely real and the good news is that it will be coming out on November 4th, 2010. That is the release date set for that accessory, and it will definitely be a huge seller, that is for sure!

So far, the types of games that have been shown are games that will appeal to all types of players. The goal of Kinect from Microsoft’s perspective is that they want to get as many people that don’t play video games to want to play video games now that a controller won’t be an obstacle anymore.

The most consistent place to get a PS3 at a good price is Amazon.  You don’t really see major instant savings because they are priced just lower than the retail price, but the savings comes in other forms.  Amazon ships Playstations for free around the US, so you don’t have to worry about paying for that.  The big savings that you might not have thought about is in sales tax.  Most states don’t have to pay tax on Amazon, and when you add up the console, a game, and a second controller, you’re looking at about $450.  Paying 8% tax on $450 locally would cost you about $36!  That savings only grows as you buy more stuff.

A place that you can find low rates, but risk buying a lemon, is Craigslist.  I’ve sold my old consoles there, and they were in great shape, but that doesn’t mean that everyone else is going to do that.  If you choose this route, bring someone with you that is familiar with the console to help you make sure that it’s in good working order and tests it out.  Not doing this is going to lead to major problems later on down the road.

Scarcity is only going to be compounded this year with the release of Playstation Move.  This is the highly anticipated motion capture add on that comes out just before the holidays.  The awesome list of Move games is growing quickly, which could make the Playstation hard to find well beyond the end of the year!

So put simply, get your PS3 as quickly as possible.  You’ll be able to find a cheap one as the holidays get closer, but it will be much tougher to do.

This game definitely utilizes the Wii Fit balance board for some of the exercises, but other exercises it does not.  It really feels like you are inside the Biggest Loser gym doing your workouts.  They will guide you through a series of hard workouts, including the world famous “Last Chance Workout”.  Then, each time that you need to weigh in, guess what, you get to do it on the Biggest Loser scale!  You’ll hop onto the balance board and feel the same type of excitement and nervousness as the contestants on the show do.
