Outdoors: Grilling with Infrared Grills

Infrared grills are a not as new as they seem in the marketplace.  While you may not have heard of them before until recently, they have actually been around quite a long time.  The company that had the patent on the grills only sold the grills to commercial establishments, like restaurants.  That is how your favorite restaurant could cook a lot of meat at a quick pace, while still allowing the steak or chicken to be juicy and cooked just the right way.  It wasn’t until recently when that patent was lifted and other companies were allowed to start making infrared grills for the average consumer.  If you don’t know how an infrared grill works, then let me walk you through it.

When looking at how an infrared grill works, the best thing we need to do is to look at how the alternative grilling method works.  Your normal grill that you have probably been using for years uses convection to cook the items.  It’s the same way that your oven in the kitchen works.  It works by raising the temperature around the items to be cooked, and allowing the surrounding heat in an enclosed space to cook the meat.  While this has definitely worked well for decades and for many people, it does have it’s drawbacks.  If you aren’t careful, you can definitely over-cook the meat and then it comes out not tasting well.  You can also under-cook it and that can be unhealthy and not taste very good.  Lastly, it can take forever to heat up enough in order to cook the meat which can keep your family and guests waiting.

Infrared grills use direct, infrared heat to cook the meat.  It cooks it much faster than convection does, because the heat is applied directly.  This allows you to get a more uniform heat  throughout the meat, as well as cooking it faster so that it is ready sooner, and it still is pretty juicy because it hasn’t been sitting in heat for a long time just to cook thoroughly.

Now you know how an infrared grill works, so when you are looking to buy a new grill, definitely consider an infrared grill.
